Business Development is the process that describes the end to end implementation of a focused marketing program that results in customer identification, bid identification, assessment, focused pursuit (capture), proposal development, and critical review of your proposal process (lessons learned).
For many companies, the Business Development process is a focused program of tracking a specific agency of the federal government and a specific contract to pursue. A search of the internet will reveal many varied and detailed Business Development processes that have been developed and modified over the years that include structure (Gate Reviews, Major Milestones) and checks & balances (checklists, Bid/No bid approval, budget review, etc.) in order to precisely control the BD approach in the hope of an increased Probability of Win. Below is a minimized but critical subset of the more detailed BD process that SBAI feels a small business with limited financial resources should focus on.
